Who We Are

BibloAmigos, the Friends of BibloRed Association, was founded in 2001 by people who believe in the importance of the potential for social development represented by Bogotá’s public library network. The association was created to support and sustain the libraries. It is open to all members of the public who are committed to supporting and strengthening the work of BibloRed.

The Friends of BibloRed Association (BibloAmigos) is registered as a private, not-for-profit agency that works in four main areas:

· Activities to publicize BibloRed nationally and internationally

· Financial management, administration and fund-raising for BibloRed

· Programs to get the public involved in the libraries, and appropriate them as their own

· Establishing strategic alliances between the city and national governments, and other key agents to successfully develop BibloRed

BibloAmigos has been an effective ally of BibloRed, not only because it finds creative ways of funding the project, but also because its financial administration has made it possible to:

· Build the collections at the libraries

· Make technological improvements

· Begin to operate as a lending library

· Improve the communications programs

· Offer cultural activities

· Fund projects

· Build new libraries
