Commemorative Book

The texts and pictures recount the evolution of libraries in the world and in Colombia, a story that culminates with the creation of BibloRed, the Capital Public Library Network, the most important project for cultural inclusion and integration for the citizens of Bogotá D.C.

The book, with a prologue by Jorge Orlando Melo and texts by Alberto Escovar, author of Atlas Histórico de Bogotá, is made up of three sections, including the evolution of the Bogotá Public Library Network:

1. The library in history
2. Reading’s silent revolution
3. The library as public building: the Capital Public Library Network

The four main libraries, the BibloRed flagships, were conceived in 1998 and will be completed in October 2009 with the inauguration of the Julio Mario Santo Domingo Cultural Center Public Library. Located in magnificent parks, the libraries are architectural attractions as well as symbols of social equality that offer the people unrestricted access to knowledge, and intellectual and spiritual development.

BibloAmigos wishes to thank everyone who has participated in preparing and producing this book, which serves as a valuable and beautiful celebration of our city.

By buying this book, you are helping provide the collection for the city’s fourth main library.
